Chaka Demus (born John Nigel Taylor, 1963) is a Jamaican deejay from West Kingston who was given his start toasting on Prince Jammy's sound system and scored 1980s solo dancehall hits such as 'Chaka on the Move'. He achieved his greatest fame after teaming with singer Pliers (Everton Bonner) around 1991 as Chaka Demus & Pliers, whose crossover hits 'Tease Me', 'Murder She Wrote' and a cover of 'Twist and Shout' reached the international pop charts. The duo became one of reggae's most commercially successful acts of the early 1990s.
