Prince Hammer (Berris Simpson) is a Jamaican deejay, singer and producer who deejayed on the Vee-Jay sound system before recording as Berris Simpson for Glen Brown in the mid-1970s, then built his own Gold Cup and Belva labels from a record shop on Orange Street. Sly & Robbie cut him a free rhythm at Channel One for 'Ten Thousand Lions', and his Bible compilation, licensed to Virgin Records with liner notes by Linton Kwesi Johnson, carried his profile to the UK.
