Sly Dunbar

Sly Dunbar (1952 - 26 January 2026) was a Jamaican drummer, one half of the rhythm section Sly and Robbie with bassist Robbie Shakespeare, and among the most recorded drummers in reggae history. Rising through the Revolutionaries and Channel One in the 1970s, he co-founded the Taxi label and, with Shakespeare, played on and produced thousands of records spanning roots reggae, dub and dancehall while backing artists from Peter Tosh and Black Uhuru to Grace Jones and Bob Dylan. His innovations, including early adoption of drum machines, helped shape the transition to the digital dancehall sound.
