Winston Riley (1943-2012) was a Jamaican singer, songwriter and producer who founded the vocal group the Techniques in 1962 before establishing his Techniques label. As a producer he had one of reggae's first international number ones with Dave and Ansell Collins's "Double Barrel," and created the "Stalag" riddim (from Ansell Collins's "Stalag 17," 1973), among the most sampled rhythms in Jamaican music. He continued producing hits into the 1990s for deejays including Cutty Ranks, Red Dragon and a young Buju Banton.
