Sean Paul and the 'dancehall goes pop' authenticity charge

“I do straight dancehall, I don't do pop. My dancehall goes pop.”

As Sean Paul became dancehall's biggest international crossover star, some Jamaican listeners and critics accused him of watering down the sound for pop and R&B audiences and of not deejaying in the hardcore style.
