Shank I Sheck Riddim

Well supported

A foundation riddim rooted in trumpeter Baba Brooks's 1964 ska instrumental 'Shank I Sheck' (produced by King Edwards), whose tenor-sax riff by Val Bennett became the recurring bassline of all later versions. Bobby Ellis's slowed-down update for Sonia Pottinger set the template for decades of recuts spanning artists from Al Campbell to Beenie Man. The title is a phonetic play on the name Chiang Kai-shek.
